| 2012 B’nai B’rith Basetball Rules |
- ** Each team will be required to wear the SAME color jersey during all games. ** There will be a one (1) week grace period after which NO player will be permitted to play UNLESS he IS wearing his teams color jersey.
- ** ALL players will be required to have separate PERMANENT numbers on their jerseys during each game. ** There will be a ONE (1) week grace period after which players will NOT be permitted to play unless he has a separate PERMANENT number on his jersey. Teams will not be permitted to play ANY games after week ONE unless it has sufficient players with the same shirt color that is PERMANENTLY numbered. (Tape, crayon, paint, sewing, or magic marker WILL NOT be allowed!) ONE blank shirt per team WILL be allowed, provided the shirt color is the same.
- Rosters will be frozen after the 2nd week of the season. ONLY proven medical disability of any player will allow additional players to join the team. ** Player contracts must be turned in by the 2nd week of the season. **
- ** B'nai B'rith dues for ALL players MUST be paid PRIOR to the 3rd week of the season. Players will not be able to participate after week 3 unless his lodge dues have been paid. Any games played with ineligible players shall be forfeited. This rule WILL be enforced.
- Team identity consists of 4 players for the purpose of movement between the leagues, when applicable. At the discretion of the executive board, TEAMS by record MAY MOVE TO THE ABOVE or below LEAGUE. This is for purpose of league parity.
- Playoffs: IN 2012 the top FOUR seeds will be INVITED to the playoffs. In order for a player to participate in the playoffs, he must have played in at least 3 games.
- Tie Breaker: (1) Head to head competition (2) Points against (3) Total wins of teams defeated. (Most difficult schedule)
- NO player may play for more than ONE team in the B'nai B'rith league during the current season. Violators of this rule will subject teams to forfeit all games in question.
- There will be TWO (2) 20-minute halves, with stopped time during the last 5 minutes of each half. The clock will stop on all timeouts. In case of a tie, there will be 3-minute overtime periods until the game is completed. NOTE: In the last 5 minutes of EACH half, if the game has a 15-point lead or more spread, the clock will continue to run. If the lead is reduced to NINE points or less, it will revert back to stopped time. The clock will continue to run if the lead is stretched back to 15 points.
- Each team will be entitiled to no more then two (2) time-outs per half, and ONE additional time-out per overtime period, no carryovers.
- Only the two teams assigned to a court may use the baskets for each game or practice. ALL other teams, players, and acquaintences that are not assigned to a particualr court MUST stay off the court during play, warm-ups, time-outs, or for any other reason. Failure to do so will result in a technical foul given to the violators team to start the game. If a court is vacant due to a forfeit, teams assigned to that court have prioity to that court up to 10 minutes before the regularly scheduled game.
- A team may start or finish a game with a MINIMUM of 4 players.
- Fouls: on the 7th team foul, the bonus rule will be in effect. On the 10th team foul, the opponent will be awarded two shots. The player shooting free throws will be allowed to enter the zone once the ball leaves the shooters hands. FIVE personal fouls will dismiss a player from the game. A technical foul will count as a personal foul and a team foul. A bench technical is assessed against the player and manager. TWO technicals will dismiss a player from the game, and the following game. Flagrant fouls that result in an ejection will result in a suspension of at least ONE (1) game. Any player dismissed, or ejected from a game for any reason, MUST leave the gym immediately, and will be subject to review by the executive board, and possible dismissal from the league. Should a player NOT leave the gym when requested, this may result in an automatic forfeiture for his team.
- Excessive swinging of arms, or elbows, in the judgement of the referee, WILL be a technical foul, even if there is no contact. Taunting or baiting will result in an ejection.
- Slam dunking will not be allowed on any court, at any time. There will be NO dunking during warm-ups and no hanging on the rims at any time. Violations of these rules will result in a technical given. Players will be responsible for broken backboards or rims.
- A designated League ball should be presented by either team at game time. A bench technical may be given for either team not having a designated league ball. (Baden OR Spalding 1000 basketballs will be used). If both managers agree, another basketball may be used.
- ALL score-sheets must be signed by each manager for verification. Interpretations of ANY unsigned sheets will be at the discretion of the executive board.
- The B'nai B'rith basketball league will follow the Michigan High School Athletic Association Basketball rules, unless superceded by these rule sheets.
- PROTESTS: Protest of any MHSAA or B'nai B'rith basketball rules must be written in the scorebook with the referees initials at the time of infraction. The score and time must be noted. A $75 protest fee must be sent to the league secretary advising him of the infraction. Money will be refunded if the protest is upheld, and retained if the protest is not allowed. Please do not abuse this rule, as we are restricted by time allotments.
- The three point rule WILL be in effect.
- Jewelry. A warning will be issued regarding the removal of any jewelry. Should a 2nd warning be given, a technical foul WILL be issued and possible dismissal from the contest.
- Forfeit rule: If two forfeits are incurred by any team, that team will be subject to removal from the league.
- Referees: Again in the 2012 season, ALL referees will be paid PRIOR to each game. The fee will be $26 per ref, per team. Each game will be officiated by TWO (2) referees. However, if there is only ONE ref, the ref will collect an additional $15. (to be split amongst both teams) ($41 total) If a team forfeits, that team will be responsible for BOTH referees. ($52 plus a $10 charge to be paid prior to the next weeks games.) Failure to do so may result in forfeitures. If this RULE is not clear, please ask.

| Reminder:
| WINNING managers, or their designates are responsible for calling or e-mailing scores to Gary Klinger, NO later than Tuesday following the game. Should no scores be called in, the league will designate a double loss for the purpose of the standings. This will remain in effect ONLY until the winning manager provide an accurate score. A statement of won or loss will NOT be acceptable, due to the fact that scores represent the 2nd tiebreaker should there be one at the end of the season. |
